Sustainability at Yoyo
From where we source our products to how we handle waste, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Here’s how we put our values into action:
Products
Around 90% of the food we sell is organic. The rest is either non-organic by nature (think sea salt) or, more often than not, sourced from right here in the UK.
Some smallholders and small-batch producers we work with aren’t certified organic – not because they don’t farm or produce sustainably, but because certification can be costly and difficult to obtain. We choose to support them anyway, because their values align with ours, and frankly, their food is too good to leave out.
We believe in organic because it’s a system that nurtures soil health, protects biodiversity and supports people. It works with nature, not against it — relying on ecological balance and local conditions rather than synthetic inputs.

Suppliers
We’re committed to working with suppliers who share our belief in sustainability — for both people and the planet.
Fair treatment is fundamental. Sustainability isn’t just about carbon footprints; it’s about people, too. That’s especially important for us, since we work with producers from all over the world.
We work with over 50 suppliers, all of whom sign up to our Supplier Code of Conduct. This ensures that ethical, environmental and social standards are embedded across our supply chain.
Closer to home, our team members are all PAYE employees, paid at least the real living wage, and provided with all the training and support they need.
Returnable Packaging
Most of the world still runs on a linear model of take-make-dispose. Swapping plastic for paper or glass may look better, but if it’s single-use, it’s still wasteful.
We’re working to change that.
Our packaging operates on a closed-loop system — meaning you return it, we reuse it. It’s not just more sustainable; it’s genuinely circular. We're proud to be among the few retailers making reuse the norm.
We even use plastic — intentionally. And we’ve got the data to back up why. Learn more on our Packaging page.
Energy
Choosing Yoyo is a vote for reuse — and for renewables. That’s why we switched to Ecotricity: a supplier that reinvests its profits into building new wind and solar parks, helping to grow the UK’s green energy infrastructure.
For us, it was an easy decision. If you’re unfamiliar with Ecotricity, check them out — they’re doing great things.
Waste & Recycling
Tony Soprano might’ve defined the waste industry for a generation (in fiction, at least), and sadly, the real-world sector can still feel a bit opaque — especially when it comes to recycling.
But we’ve found a standout in First Mile. From their fully electric collection fleet to their state-of-the-art sorting facilities, they’re setting a new standard in responsible waste handling.
