Organic Pinhead Oats have signature nutty flavour and chewy texture due to their lack of processing. Because of this, they also take longer to digest and release energy so they're a terrific start to the day.

Description

What Are Pinhead Oats?

These pinhead oats (also known as steel-cut oats or oatmeal) are whole oats which have been chopped into two or three pinhead-sized pieces.

This is one step before they are processed into rolled (porridge) oats. Due to a lack of processing, they have a chewier, coarser texture and nuttier flavour than other oats.

How To Cook

Cooking Pinhead Oats

These pinhead oats are traditionally used to make porridge. However, as they are less processed they typically take 15–30 minutes to cook. This can be reduced by pre-soaking.

I personally like to mix some in with my porridge oats. I don't bother with soaking or cooking them longer. I like the contrast in texture!

Thanks to their signature nutty flavour and chewy texture (more so than oats further down the process line) they also make great additions to baking, stews, smoothies and salads.

Excellent

Very good oats, high quality, well packaged, tasty; I'm definitely a convert to pinhead oats which really improve overnight oats.

Delicious and nutritious breakfast

As one of the least processed type of oats available, these are an especially nutritious breakfast option. We add these to our regular porridge oats for an added bite. The quality is exceptional and as these aren't always easy to find without plastic, we're really happy that they're available here.
