Specialty Coffee Beans
The Mandalay Coffee Group was established in 2014, and is owned and operated by citizens of Myanmar - many of whom have been involved in the coffee industry for over 30 years.
The group works with smallholder farmers across Ywangan, each of whom cultivates between 0.25-3 acres of land. Padah Lin consists of lots grown by Danu & Pa-O Hill people, across 16 villages in the remote mountainous area of Ywangan, in the southern Shan state.
The Ywangan region sits at an elevation of around 1,200-1,600 meters above sea level, providing ideal conditions for growing high-quality coffee. Fertile, volcanic soil contributes to the distinct taste, as does the cool and temperate climate.
Coffee plants are intercropped with a variety of produce such as avocados, jackfruit, papaya, macadamia and djenkol beans. This diverse planting strategy contributes to the unique flavour, and provides a number of ecological benefits.
The variety of trees acts as a natural barrier against the spread of coffee leaf rust, a common fungal disease that can severely impact yields. Additionally, the trees provide essential shade, benefiting both the coffee plants, which thrive in shaded conditions, and the farmers' families, who appreciate the respite from the tropical sun around their homes.
In general, Ywangan coffee production is characterised by its smooth, sweet flavour profile with notes of chocolate, citrus and florals. This is particularly prominent in the case of Padah Lin, which is processed using the traditional washed method to create a bright and clean cup.
This light-bodied brew is bursting with citrus notes of mandarine, satsuma and clementine. A honey sweetness, and flavours of milk chocolate and coconut round out the cup. You’ll notice subtle floral elements of lychee and jasmine in the aroma, and a herbal green tea aftertaste.

These beans are roasted by our neighbours and are supplied in a closed-loop system which means the tubs in which it is supplied to us are collected and reused. And because it's so local, we do this on a push bike!
